The 100 Day Project

For the third year in a row I am participating in a 100 Day Project.

A 100 day project is about doing something every day for 100 days.

The organizer of the New Zealand based 100 day project is taking a break this year so I teamed up with the gallery owner at Tutere Gallery and we are hosting our own 100 Day Project.

We have 50+ artists from around the world joining us – each doing their own project and sharing their progress on facebook and a few in person here in New Zealand.  It is inspiring and motivational to be part of such a group.

[Sorry – we sold out spaces for this year’s project.]

I have to admit I was worried this year about my project not being exciting enough as I am “leading” a group.  I felt I needed to have some sort of wow factor.

And then I got over myself and decided what I needed was to learn something I want to learn. And that is….

My 2018 Project – More Mark Making

My project is to explore mark making with a variety of tools on a variety of supports by creating 1 drawing a day. As a textile artist, I have not worked extensively with many of the art tools available today.

After the huge learning I did with last years project of mark making on fabric, I am eager to explore what is possible as I take my work off the fabric and onto other supports.

My compositions will be abstract some days and realistic others. I’m not limiting my subject matter as this is an exploration of materials not content. I will be using mostly black and white although I’m sure other colors will appear in the work as needed.

To lend a bit of cohesiveness each drawing will be 5×5″.

In addition to learning which tools and paper/boards/canvas I might prefer, I will be exploring ways of turning my drawings into complete works of art ready for sale. I won’t be diving into this part of the project until August due to other deadlines.

I will be sharing images of my work on social medai and here on my blog as the 100 days progress.
