The Newest Studio Assistant and some Cat Art

The Cat Distribution System at Work

Cats are the bestest pets – so cute and cuddly and aloof. And they have the most adorable feet ever. If I am ever stuck on what to put on my nightly gratitude list – cat paws are always a reliable back up entry.

I’ve always had lovely furry studio assistants.

Upon moving to New Zealand I never felt it was the right time to get a new cat.

But I have really missed having one. Fortunately the CDS (cat distribution service) step in and on New Years Eve I was presented a cat.

She had been an occasional visitor and that night after being shooed out the front door she simply hopped in the window (no screen on the windows here) and didn’t leave.

A Warm Welcome to Boat

We had seen the cat for a few years in our yard and she was quite friendly. The neighbors thought she was ours. We thought she was theirs.

A few years ago we started calling her Boat as she was frequently hiding out in Kiwi Guy’s boat. The name has stuck.

Boat is a lovely well mannered low maintenance cat.

She makes for a great studio assistant, keeping me company and staying off the tables.

Which is really quite weird – I’ve never had a cat that spends so much time on the floor. Most of that time on her back.

The Cat Art

As a thank you to the Cat Distribution System I created a few cat portraits.

I started these years ago in a class and finally felt inspired to get them finished.

They will be available for purchase later this month during the Fancy That online art show at ArtBurst Studio Nov 14-16.

Be sure to sign up for my mailing list to be notified of show details or check out their website: ArtBurst Studios.

And if you live in the Wellington Region – stop by this weekend (November 9 – 10) during the Kapiti Coast Art Trail to see a few more cats looking for adoption.

I’m #86 in the Art Trail Guide.

We’ll Prescribe You a Cat

While finishing these pieces, I was listening to a delightful book about people being prescribed a cat for whatever ailed them.

Highly recommend if you are a cat lover, or even if you aren’t. The chapter that waxes on about cat feet was excellent. Who doesn’t love their little toe beans.
