The Problem with Finishing…
…is that it is hard. I keep starting things and not finishing them.
I’ve gotten over that initial hurdle of starting – which the wisdom tells us is half the battle.
But 50% isn’t a whole lot better than 0%. I would like to squish together a bunch of my 50% things into a bunch of 100% things but it doesn’t really work that way.
Each thing is it’s own thing. They don’t squish together.
From art to blog posts to art biz projects – they are all piling up in the “to be finish” section of life. (not to mention a very long list of tech things that have gone awry the last few weeks.)
And it is draining my energy and motivation
So today – I vowed to finish something.
Because in finishing, energy is released. Which is then harnessed for the next thing on the list.
And I get things done. And the stress level drops.
While I never expect to finish everything – I do need to finish something.
Blogging
Today I picked to finish a blog post.
Because I really do love writing these posts, I just keep putting them off as low priority.
Which I want to stop doing. Because I was thinking the other day what I would do if I won the lottery. And the things on my list (related to art stuff) were:
- make art
- exhibit occasionally
- write blog posts
- run the MakeBigArt Community
- coach some of my most favorite clients
Which begs the question… Why blogging? Isn’t blogging dead?
No it is not. Although increasingly more and more blog posts will be written by chatGPT.
Which is an opportunity for me to stand out as actually writing real things. ChatGPT can’t write this post because it doesn’t know what’s in my head (yet). (I always put (yet) after everything I say about AI these days)
And anyway – none of the reasons why blogging might be dead matter to me. I simply love writing. I learn so much about myself in the process.
I had no idea what this post would be about before I started it. But now I know. I’m feeling overwhelmed by the huge number of unfinished projects and tasks in my life.
And now you know also.
About Me
I want to share with you this lovely poem – a collaboration between myself and chatGPT.
While I will never use content from chatGPT without attribution. It is an incredibly powerful tool and one I do use from time to time to help me generate ideas.
I’m in the process (yes – another unfinished project) of updating my website and I thought some more engaging prose was on order.
This poem was a rewrite of my current about page (it could use more refinement but after a few back and forth with the ai I got it to a state worth sharing)
This is not likely to make the final cut on my website but it at least entertained me for a few minutes.
Adventure and connection intertwine
In every piece of artwork that is mine
Abstract or a landscape, it’s all the same
Exploring new spaces is my endless gameTaking risks, embracing the unknown
In my creations, my journey is shown
From Denver’s hustle to New Zealand’s beauty
My life’s adventure continues in full dutyAs I form new relationships, I delve deep
Missing loved ones, making memories to keep
My thin lines signify the barriers in life
Disconnecting us all, fueling internal strifeFrom the US to New Zealand, a new shift
My art still soars, on an endless drift
With free time on hand, I seek solace
Yoga, gardening, cooking, reading, my palaceCome, join my journey, in art coaching

In every piece, my heart’s voice echoes
Adventure and connection, my muse, my fellows.
