To Brooklyn

I finished my second textile painting in the Brooklyn Bridge series yesterday.

I never planned on a Brooklyn Bridge series – but sometimes it just happens.

The inspiration:

Opened in 1883, taking 14 years, 600 workers and $15 million to build, the Brooklyn Bridge was the very first steel suspension bridge. For 20 years it had the longest span in the world, 1595 feet, from tower to tower.

Around 150,000 vehicles and pedestrians still cross every day, including me. Anytime I’m in New York, I walk across the bridge for the iconic view. And because the best New York City pizza can be found in the shadow of the bridge in Brooklyn.

And this was the first work in the series.

I’ll probably make more.

And they will all have the pizza.
