I’ve had a few news items sitting in my email waiting for a blog post.
Today I have unearthed a few bits of news to share as I’m clearing out my inbox.
Quilts = Art = Quilts – 2023
Quilts = Art = Quilts is an international juried exhibition of quilts that has been around for several decades. The first time I exhibited in this show at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, New York was 1997. There, I won Judges Choice for Color and Design and an Honorable Mention for a traditional quilt.
The best in show winner was Pathways II: Cat Spot. That cat fabric was one of my favorites. I have a series of 6 or 7 quilts in the Pathways series. At that time, I taught a class at quilt stores on using half square triangles to create original designs.

The traditional quilt that won the honorable mention was made from a pattern from Quiltmaker Magazine from 1993. I changed the colors and they published my version of the quilt in the 2000 issue of Quiltmaker Magazine’s All-Time Favorites, Special Issue. Unfortunately I’m unable to find a copy of the quilt anywhere on my computer but I did find this facebook post of someone looking for the pattern as the traditional maple leaf block has a curved stem vs straight. The one I made that won the award and was published was fall colors with a bright purple border.
I exhibited at Quilts = Art = Quilt again in 1999 and then I didn’t enter the juried show again until 2023.
My piece Like Water off a Duck’s Back, was accepted and I was happy to receive this image of my work hanging in the show as I was in New Zealand and unable to attend.

Fiber Talk with Lisa Call
Back in October of 2023 I had a lovely chat with Gary Parr on his podcast Fiber Talk.
You can listen to the episode on the Fiber Talk website.
QuiltCon 2024 – 20 Modern Quilts by Artists Outside of the USA
David Owen Hastings asked if he could feature my work in a talk he was giving to the Modern Quilt Guild at QuiltCon in February of 2024.
While there is no recording (that I know of) from this talk – it was an honor to have my work included in the lecture.
A friend sent me a few images of the slides that she took during the lecture.
