Preparing for Open Studios – the Kapiti Arts Trail 2020

Preparing my studio for the Kapiti Arts Trail open studio event.
The door to my studio – before stairs

Save the Date

I’m thrilled to announce that I will be participating in this year’s open studio event here on the Kapiti Coast in New Zealand.

I will be sharing and selling my artwork directly from my studio in Paraparaumu, New Zealand on 7-8 and 14-15 November, 2020.

That is as long as we remain at alert level 1. So far so good. And fingers crossed it stays that way and this will be the first live art event I will participating in this year as my 2 previous shows were cancelled due to covid.

I’ll be sending out some reminder emails with more information to my newsletter list so if you haven’t subscribed to my newsletter you can do that here: Lisa Call’s studio newsletter. *

Preparing for the Arts Trail

Right now the focus in my world is about 150% dedicated to preparing for the arts trail. That means I’m super busy!

In addition to getting the artwork finished and the studio ready, it’s time to do some spring cleaning around the yard.

And most importantly – I need some stairs leading into my studio. As you can see from the first photo – it’s a big leap up to the deck at the moment.

Although before stairs can happen we needed to solve a small – er – large flooding issue with our yard.

This is what it looked like outside my studio door much of the winter. We are in a ponding area (the water table in New Zealand sit pretty close to the surface) so some amount of water isn’t unusual. This year it was far beyond “some” and we had a lake.

Our personal lake

I kept telling kiwi guy that we had blocked the drain when we pulled out the bamboo that used to be outside my studio door and sure enough – that was exactly the problem. (He begrudgingly admitted I was right – he wanted it to be more of a “bring in a digger” sort of problem so he could play with big toys.)

The drain – in progress

So we’ve cleaned that all up and we have a fancy new drain thing. And yesterday it rained heaps and it worked. No flood.

So we need to get this finished up and then it will be stair time.

We have 10 days. What could go wrong?

PS – On occasion I have special announcements that I send only to that list – and later this week is one of those times. If you’ve had your eye one one of my textiles you might want to be sure to be on the mailing list.
