From Dream to Reality
This April the art world became a better place with the opening of Loewen Studio and Gallery – dedicated to featuring quilts as fine art.
The gallery is the result of years of hard work and planning by the fabulous artist Pamela Loewen.
I first met Pamela Loewen years ago a during a workshop at the Nancy Crow Barn. We were both emerging artists working seriously on our practices.
I have had the pleasure with working with Pamela first as a student and then as a coaching client throughout the development of the new space.
I can still recall the first time Pamela shared her dream out loud – to own a gallery that highlights and centers quilt based artwork (along with a stunning state of the art studio housed in the same space.)
Turning that dream into a reality was mission and I can think of no one better than Pamela to see it through all the ups and downs, uncertainty and pandemics. I admire her strength and vision to keep going each time a new road block was thrown in her path.
The power of passion.
And now we all benefit from her hard work as quilts get the featured spotlight they deserve.
Loewen Studio and Gallery
The gallery is housed in a remodeled storefront in downtown Williamston, Michigan.
The gallery will feature several solo exhibitions each year with the inaugural show being that of Pamela’s own Garden Series.
This not to be missed exhibition closes on August 9 so if you are anywhere near Michigan I encourage you to take a road trip to see the amazing space and view her artwork.
I am spending my summer in the United States and my first stop was Michigan to see the gallery and visit with Pamela. A peak of her work in this photo of the two of us.
The gallery has a clear vision and is focused on providing a space for quilt based artists to hold solo exhibitions. Along with the exhibition the gallery has a clear promotion plan.
Every artist will have several events such as book signings (of the professional catalog of their exhibition) and artists talks. In addition to selling the original artwork, select works will also be available as archival prints on paper or metal.
Quiltmakers, curious how to get on the gallery’s radar?
Make a lot of artwork.
And then submit your work for the gallery’s first juried show to be held in January. There is a potential of receiving a solo show for at least one of the exhibited artists. Additional details are still being worked out.
