Master Class – Working in a Series

June 30 – July 5, 2016
Fibre Arts @ the Winter School
Ballarat, Australia
Details and Enrollment

“I enrolled in Lisa Call’s ‘Working in a Series’ workshop at Fibre Forum, Sale, Victoria, in March hoping that I would gain design skills to work with Japanese and hand dyed fabrics in a modern, art style.

With Lisa’s constructive sharing of her approach to abstract textile art, and her incorporation of strategies for developing my studio practice, together with detailed class notes, I gained so much in confidence during the four days of the workshop and was able to produce nine small pieces using her Intentional Piecing technique.

Subsequently, the additional course materials delivered via email have kept my learning, excitement and enthusiasm at a high level.

I now have ideas for extending the series begun in Sale, and have also commenced work on an additional series which may be sold in conjunction with a major exhibition in September.

Without a doubt, Lisa’s teaching has been the impetus that has enabled me to now think and speak of myself as a textile artist and to embrace this challenge.”

Art:

  • Always Working In a Series – Known for my long running series Structures, with nearly 150 textile paintings in the grouping, I will take you on a journey through both art history and my own artistic development. As I dive into the how and why of working in a series, I will dispel the myth that this means doing the same thing over and over again.
  • Working 2 Full Time Careers without Caffeine – The answer to the most frequently asked question: how I work full time as both an artist and a software project manager and get everything done. Studio practices, time management and mindsets. This talk includes many images of the 250+ textile paintings I’ve made in the last 10 years.

Art Business:

  • How To Promote Yourself and Your Artwork via Social Media – Big picture planning and small details on how to leverage social media as an artist.
  • Time Management: The Artist and the Internet – If you don’t know why you are messing around on the internet, how do you know when you are done?

Previous Lectures and Workshops

“I wanted to thank you for one of the best presentations I’ve seen at FRCQ — consciously organized and delivered along with clear connections to applied learning theory and the psychology of process and working toward mastery.

Other artists I know also found your presence at the meeting most pleasing and rewarding.”
